How to Clean A Wood Deck | Grime Guyz Power Washing

Cleaning Wooden Furniture, Fences And Decks. Keeping Outdoor Living Areas In Good Condition.
Outdoor living is about your backyard becoming a place where you, your family, and your friends spend quality time together. Wooden structures in your outdoor living area include wooden privacy fencing, a wooden deck and sometimes high-value teak patio furniture. Caring for this area is essential to keep it the center of happy days and memories. Avoid worrying about maintenance when relaxing with your family in the backyard.
Signs it might be time for some TLC include dark streaks on the wooden deck, grey and dingy outdoor furniture, and bright green moss growing on the bottom of your wooden privacy fence.
Cleaning Plus Restoring Wood
Cleaning Wood
The first step is removing loose dirt, algae and debris with a pressure washer. We use a pressure washer with a lower-pressure setting to avoid removing too much pulp. During this first power wash, we use an algaecide and detergents to kill the algae and mold so it doesn't come back as soon.
Restoring Decks and Fences
The Second Step is optional, but if you want to make the wood look new, The Grime Guys' have a special brightening agent that is left on for a while to brighten the damage done by sun and staining from moss, mold and dirt. After we wash it off we allow the deck dry overnight before we do any more steps.
Time to Seal Your Deck
A lot of people have questions about the purpose of sealing their decks. Sealing your deck is essential in protecting it from moisture and mold.
The benefits of having a sealed wood deck include the following:
- Preventing mildew growth
- Keeping out water damage from rain or snow melt during winter months
- Protecting against sun damage from UV rays
How Often Do I Need to Seal My Outdoor Structures?
If you have a wooden deck, you should seal it at least once a year, and in areas where it often rains, then twice a year. We use top-of-the-line sealants and can use a sealant containing stain if you prefer.
We apply two coats of sealant for good protection, waiting at least 12 hours for the first coat to dry before adding the second.
All of this is hard work but don't let that stop you from protecting your property and your investment.
